On March 3rd, a group of hikers from St. Paul’s took part in the annual Hike for the Homeless, at Estrella Mountain Park. This event raises money for St. Joseph the Worker, www.sjwjobs.org , one of the organizations based at the Homeless Campus, in downtown Phoenix, which provides services to help find a permanent solution to homelessness.

The economy must serve the people, not the other way around. Work is more than a way to earn a living ; it is a form of participation in God’s creation. The basic rights of workers must be respected.
A basic moral test is how our most vulnerable members are fairing. In a society marred by deepening divisions between rich and poor, our tradition recalls the story of the Last Judgement and instructs us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.
The person is not only sacred but social. We believe that people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking the common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.
We are one human family whatever our national, ethnic, economic, and idealogical differences. We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, wherever they may be. Our love demands that we promote peace in a world surrounded by violence and conflict.

AHCCCS, which is Medicaid in Arizona, is seeking public comments on Governor Brewer’s proposals to freeze coverage, affecting tens of thousands of parents and hundreds of thousands of other adults. The public is invited to offer comments in person on Monday, April 25, from 2-4 p.m., at the ABIL Conference Center at 5025 E. Washington, Suite 200, in Phoenix.
